Artist Statement
My current work deeply relates to nature, as if each piece I create were extracted from its original environment. It is organic in its form and texture. I am also inspired by the history of ceramics of the ancient Etruscans and Romans. I strive for beauty and elegance; on my very best days while in my studio or out for a hike and/or run I get glimpses of it, and that is what keeps me going. It is all about that eternal elusive quest for beauty.
I am obsessed and constantly intrigued by the passage of time in all living things, and have the need to capture it to enjoy its beauty; hoping to transfer it to the viewer. Stillness, movement, interaction, connection, change, form, color, texture given by the human soul and by the vast natural wonder that surrounds us.
When I begin working on a series, the throwing wheel is only the beginning. I always strive towards a sense of movement that never leaves me until the piece is attentively glazed; I have a general idea, and then my work evolves while creating it. This gives me pleasure and a sense of surprise at the end. I just let it happen.
